This meal took me back to my Lebanese roots with the delicious spreads and bread. Everything was flavored perfectly and I even loved the dessert which was a spring on chocolate mousse. The drinks were also unique. Giving it four stars though because we did order our steak medium and it came out medium rare. It took them quite a bit to bring out a new one. Also, I think that it is a bit expensive for what you get and could come with an additional side with your main and larger portion dips (the bowl is a little deceiving).
Overview
When you step into Maydan in Washington, DC, you're not just entering a restaurant-you're walking into a vibrant celebration of Middle Eastern and North African cuisine. Located at 1346 Florida Ave NW, Washington, DC 20009, this stylish eatery brings bold flavors and an immersive dining experience to the heart of the city. From the moment you walk through the door, the ambiance sets the tone for what promises to be an unforgettable meal.
The design of Maydan transports you straight to the lands of the Levant, with its warm, inviting space that makes you feel like you’re dining in a bustling Middle Eastern marketplace. The wood-fired grill dominates the center of the restaurant, creating both a visual focal point and an intoxicating aroma that fills the air. It’s clear that the restaurant’s founders have carefully curated every element of the experience, from the interior decor to the mouthwatering menu, which highlights dishes that showcase traditional flavors with a modern twist.
One of the standout features of Maydan is its menu. The restaurant places a strong emphasis on the art of grilling, with an open flame that cooks meats, vegetables, and seafood to perfection. The menu is a journey across the Middle East and North Africa, with dishes that celebrate centuries-old cooking traditions. For starters, their hummus, served with freshly baked flatbread, is rich and creamy, making it the perfect introduction to the meal. For something heartier, the lamb shoulder, slow-cooked over the fire, is a true crowd-pleaser, tender and bursting with flavor. Each bite of the lamb is a perfect balance of smoky, savory, and subtly spiced notes.
Another memorable dish at Maydan is their whole fish, expertly charred and served with a side of couscous and grilled vegetables. The delicate fish, with its crispy skin and flaky flesh, is a testament to the kitchen’s commitment to using the finest ingredients and preparing them in a way that enhances their natural flavors. The use of spices, like cumin, coriander, and cinnamon, creates layers of depth that elevate each dish without overwhelming the palate.
For vegetarians and those looking for lighter options, Maydan offers a variety of vibrant, flavorful dishes. The grilled eggplant is a favorite, topped with tahini, fresh herbs, and a hint of pomegranate molasses. The combination of smokiness from the grill and the tangy sweetness of the pomegranate creates a truly unique flavor profile. The menu also features an assortment of salads, such as the Fattoush, with its crunchy textures and refreshing notes of lemon and mint.
The drink menu at Maydan perfectly complements the bold flavors of the food. Their selection of wines from Lebanon, Morocco, and other regions offers a refreshing contrast to the smoky, spice-laden dishes. For those who prefer cocktails, their mixologists serve up creative drinks that highlight Middle Eastern ingredients like rosewater and citrus, providing a perfect balance of floral and zesty notes.
The service at Maydan is another element that sets it apart. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, always happy to offer recommendations or explain the intricacies of the dishes. Their passion for the food they serve is evident in every interaction, making you feel like a valued guest from the moment you arrive.
With its dynamic atmosphere, diverse menu, and commitment to authentic flavors, Maydan is a must-visit destination for food lovers in Washington, DC. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this restaurant offers an unparalleled dining experience that will leave you craving more.

Amazing entrées, muhammara, dreamy creamy texture humus, creamy yogurt based walnut spread, freshly baked bread, zucchini in creamy sauce with subtle sweet tone garnished with hazelnut! Very fresh vegetable and pickle plate! Just luscious! The only comment is that the chicken brochette could have been grilled better for crispier skin, and the music volume in bathrooma was too high!
The Tawle experience is the way to go! You truly feast on fresh, flavorful, and healthy dishes — every bite feels like a gastronomical adventure. The flavors, presentation, and warmth of the space make it such a perfect spot to share with friends. From the energy of the open fire to the communal style of dining, it’s an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of togetherness and great food. Highly recommend! Pro Tip: Get the Cauliflower!
Incredible restaurant - the vibe was immaculate. Everything from the exterior to the interior was so intricately decorated to make entering the restaurant feel like an experience. We reserved an indoor dining table and ordered the Tawle tasting menu. Such amazing value for the endless amount of food. When we visited in Feb 2025, the tasting menu was $85 per person. $85 in this economy (especially for a Michelin star restaurant) is insane when they give you such huge portions! Everything that was offered on their tasting menu was so flavorful from the spreads to the salads to the center plate. Even their flatbread was freshly baked and delicious. There is an outdoor seating option available but I would recommend snagging an indoor table if possible. Sitting inside and experiencing the ambiance of the restaurant while enjoying the exceptional food is an unparalleled experience. Being in a small tent outside will not do your visit justice. To reserve, you have to book through Resy. They only allow you to reserve a table 21 days in advance. I barely was able to book an indoor table once the slots opened right at 10am, so make sure to be diligent and plan ahead.
This was an amazing food experience. We did a la carte and shared. We took some great recommendations from our hostess Nadia. The food was great. We loved everything we ordered. I will come back again. I had the Belly Dancer cocktail. It is a must try.
I went here for dinner with a friend after wanting to eat here for over a year. We were seated in the “Medina Dining Room” which is not the main space and does not have the signature open fire. That said, the atmosphere was still fantastic and the food was delicious. It was definitely pricey for what it is and we probably could have used one or two more dishes. Maydān is definitely still a place worth trying though. Their Lamb Hummus was amazing! I will return.
WOW! This place was worth the wait. We loved the food, ambiance, and service. There were 5 of us so we did the Tawle experience and we had so many leftovers because while we each ate so much we still had extras. Worth the money!
